Executive Director’s Report

  • Business Visits
    • 20 visits since this plan was adopted. That’s 8 ahead of Schedule. Nearly universally, businesses are giving low ratings for quality of employees.
  • Touching Base with Investors
    • All of the premiere members have been reached, but this will remain an ongoing endeavor.
  • Business List
    • Ongoing
  • Succession Planning Workshop
    • We have three businesses interested. No date has been set.
  • E – Commerce Educational Program
    • Two of our members have expressed a willingness to help with this. I was thinking late fall would be a good time.
  • Funding Agency Educational Program
    • WIEDA would like to hold a meeting in Hancock County and invite local leaders to learn about what they do.
  • Serve on the Hancock CEO Steering Committee
    • $27315.44 has been raised.
  • Organize a Business Plan Competition
    • Tabled until after CEO’s first year.
  • Put New Entrepreneurs in Touch with Necessary Services
    • I’ve had four potential entrepreneurs contact me. One has since decided not to start a business.
  • Conduct Ribbon Cuttings and Generate Publicity for Opening Businesses
    • This is ongoing.
  • Identify Entrepreneurs Interested in Starting or Utilizing an Incubator
    • Tabled until after CEO’s first year.
  • Conduct a Yearly Job Fair for High School Students
    • I worked with WIB to make applications available to Southeastern students in lieu of a job fair. We will be working on a career fair for the fall.
    • WIB and I also organized mock interviews for Hamilton 8th
  • Partner with WIB in Educating High School Graduates and Second Career Professionals
    • I believe a partnership with CSC will go a long way in helping with this goal.
  • Partner with WIB in Implementing Programs to Fill Retiree Positions
    • We are engaged in trying to fill positions created by a recent expansions.
    • I am aware of new openings and seeking out potential hires.
  • Make Commercial Properties Available on LOIS
    • This week I finally started receiving more properties to put on LOIS.
  • Use the MTC Study to Apply for Fiber Optic Grants
    • MTC and I presented our plan to Nauvoo on May 17th. It was well received and they formed a committee.
    • I also reached out to Memorial Hospital to find out what their future fiber optic needs are and we will be partnering with them as well. Telemedicine will be greatly helped by fiber optics.
  • Help Raise Funds for the Community Fund
    • Ongoing
  • Form a Community Fund Board
    • No Progress
  • Develop Internal Documents for Available Buildings and Sites that Can be Submitted for Specifics Project Requests
    • I have been collecting tax cards for some of the available properties which contains must of the relevant information that I can use to generate documents for possible projects.
  • Post Weekly Blog Entries
    • I have started posting summarized versions of my report. These include no names or identifying information.
  • Issue Monthly Reports to the Exec Committee and Board of Directors

  • Issue Quarterly Reports to Hancock County Business Associations
    • Ongoing
  • Newsletter Update
    • Summer Newsletter went out last week.
  • Maintain the HCEDC Facebook Page
    • There have been quite a few job listings.
  • Engage in Regular Communication with Hancock County Board and Other Local Officials
    • I’ll be in Dallas City next week. Bowen and Warsaw will follow shortly.
  • Create and Maintain a Potential Member List
    • Ongoing
  • Other Projects and Accomplishments
  • LaHarpe MAPPING
    • I have participated in two town clean ups and helped with an information booth on the 4th of July.
    • There are about 80 people working with Love LaHarpe.
    • Three building have been purchased since February and Two of them have storefronts filled.
    • Next logical step is a TIF District.
    • Hopefully MAPPING will be around long enough to engage our other towns.
  • WIEDA
    • Jacksonville School District was issued 32,000,000 in bonds.
  • Invoices
    • Invoices went out. We have 55 returns. $98,355.72
