EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR – JOB DESCRIPTION


The Executive Director reports to the Executive Committee of the Hancock County Economic Development Corporation (HCEDC) Board of Directors. The executive director’s primary responsibility is to promote economic development within Hancock County, Illinois. The Executive Director leads economic development programs and activities that seek to improve the economic well-being and quality of life by assisting businesses in creating and retaining jobs for Hancock County and expanding the tax base.


Key Responsibilities


  • Strategic Planning and Implementation: Develop and implement long-term economic development strategies, focusing on growth sectors and sustainable community development.

  • Community and Business Engagement: Foster relationships with local communities, businesses, and stakeholders to understand their needs and collaborate on growth initiatives.

  • Program Development: Collaborate with key constituents on programs such as workforce training, business incentives, and innovation initiatives and programs to drive local economic growth.

  • Grant Writing and Fundraising Support: Work in partnership with members and organizations to Identify and apply for grants, secure funding, and collaborate with investors to support key economic development projects.

  • Marketing and Public Relations: Promote the county’s economic potential, attract investment, and highlight local opportunities through targeted marketing and public relations campaigns.

  • Organizational Leadership: Manage projects, and coordinate with government agencies, businesses, and community organizations to execute economic development strategies.


Qualifications

Experience & Education:

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Economic Development, Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, Finance or other relevant field of study, or equivalent experience. Three years of professional experience managing an economic development program preferred. Proven ability to provide leadership, collaboration, and creativity in developing economic development initiatives. Possession of a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of general business principles and practices, organization and management.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills (both written and verbal), including presentation of information, public speaking , social media and formal presentations.

  • Proficiency with computers and business software

  • Ability to plan and direct the work of professional, technical, and administrative staff.

  • Ability to meet with individuals from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds and education levels and effectively present economic development programs.

  • Ability to work with organization boards, government boards, regulatory agencies, and media.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, sales skills, highly motivated and enthusiastic.

  • Ability to work independently and make independent decisions.

  • Self-driven individual must be able to executive tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to establish and maintain public confidence and interest in economic development programs.


Additional Items:

  • Flexible Work Location: The role offers flexibility to work from various locations, including the option to work from home as desired by the candidate or the office space provided.

  • Travel Requirements: Regular travel throughout Hancock County is required, with mileage reimbursement provided.

  • Physical Requirements: The candidate should be able to lift to 25 pounds.


Salary Range and Benefits:

  • Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience.

  • Residence in Hancock County is required.
